Behind Closed Doors

One artist whose work I'm really enjoying is Julie Ford Oliver.  I'm not a "flowers in a vase" kind of person but I like her palette knife technique.  Check her out... http://juliefordoliver.blogspot.ca/

This is today's painting up for auction at Daily Paintworks.  I just love the textures of old stuff...may have to do a doorknob series.
"Behind Closed Doors", 5x7", acrylic

"Tom's Shed" will be off to it's new home today...kind of sad to see it go.

Happy Painting!

In other news, I visited the Merrickville Arts Guild studio tour yesterday.  There were some really great artists, including Holly Dean (www.HollyDean.com). I LOVE her studio and her art and she is a sweetheart!

What Are You Looking At?

I went to a paintout with a local art group a couple of weeks ago and did some sketches for this little painting. I can't say the sheep was very cooperative!  This little cutie is sold (www.dailypaintworks.com) and on it's way to Washington, DC but I kind of wanted to keep it.

In other news, the September-October issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine is out and has my wire "bra" sculpture in it.

Tapped

Here is a demo piece I did with my students yesterday evening and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.  They are a beginner crew and were a little intimidated by this exercise in design and value patterns, but they pushed through like troopers and ended up happy in the end.

3 Cups of Tea

I took a "textile collage" class with Maggie Vanderweit a couple of weeks ago (stonethreads.ca) and came away with a bunch of textile pieces.  A couple of them I finished off as quilted wall hangings but I also wanted to incorporate some into semi-abstract works on gallery canvas.  Here is the first one that I finished off on a stretched canvas.

Ready To Roll

This is my 1st submission to the July virtual paintout (Thailand). Painting round wheels with a palette knife is an interesting challenge.

Here is the link to my inspiration in Thailand from Google street view.

On the Fence Revisited

I decided I didn't like the blue so I changed "On the Fence".

On The Fence

"On The Fence"- 6"x6"-Acrylic and charcoal on canvas board
More experimenting.  This one is acrylic and charcoal on a canvas board.  I'm taking a class next week in mixed media and incorporating more drawing media, so I thought it would be fun to practice on my own before hand.  I mixed a little clear gesso into my background colour to provide a little bit more tooth for the charcoal and it worked quite well.

This was also Latvia inspired. Here is the virtual paintout link.

Another Latvia-inspired painting and attempt at palette-knife painting. Here is the link to my inspiration url.

Green Door

I decided to do this month's virtual paintout and thought it would be fun to try a pallette knife painting.

A few new paintings

I've been painting quite a bit with my new studio and teaching a few classes.  Here is one of my latest and I really like it.

As of today ski racing season is over which means a lot more free time on weekends, woo hoo.

New Studio!

Very exciting news!  I just got the keys to my new studio space last week.  It needs some paint and a bit more cleanup but it has tons of potential.  There are multiple sinks, storage and even a dryer vent that I can use to vent my encaustic setup.  It's big enough for workshops which I'm currently planning out, so stay tuned. I'll post some pictures in the next few days too.
